Description
Dynamic perspectives and smooth bokeh at 16 mm
With a 16 mm angle of view and F1.8 aperture, the FE 16mm F1.8 G can capture wide-angle imagery with gorgeous background bokeh. This expressive prime G Lens™ is great for scenery, architecture, starry skies, and more. It also offers outstanding close-up capability and precise, quiet AF. The FE 16mm F1.8 G accepts standard 67 mm filters, is compact and lightweight, and is easy to balance on a gimbal.
Outstanding resolution at ultra-wide 16 mm angles of view
Outstanding resolution in ultra-wide views
Two AA (Advanced Aspherical) lens minimise field curvature and astigmatism for stunning
image-wide resolution at all apertures. One Super ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass element
and three ED elements suppress chromatic aberration, while an optimised coating
minimises flare and ghosting. This is an ideal lens for creating spectacular wide-angle
images.
The beauty of G Lens bokeh at F1.8
When beautiful bokeh is the goal, this G Lens really delivers with its large F1.8 maximum
aperture, 11-blade circular aperture mechanism, and carefully controlled spherical
aberration.
Eye-opening close-up performance
Close-up performance is excellent with a minimum focus distance of 0.15 m / 0.5 ft and
maximum magnification of 0.25x when using AF (0.13 m / 0.43 ft, 0.30x for MF). The ability
to get that close with an ultra-wide lens makes it possible to capture dynamic perspectives
with deep, exquisite bokeh.
Large-aperture ultra-wide performance in a compact lens
Large-aperture, ultra-wide, and compact
Aspherical lens elements, including Sony’s high-precision AA (Advanced Aspherical) lens,
result in a full-frame ultra-wide lens that is 73.8 x 75 mm (3 x 3 in) and weighs just 304 g
(10.8 oz). It is compact, lightweight, and mobile while delivering spectacular imaging
performance for a wide range of subjects including landscapes, architecture, night scenes,
and more.
Fast, precise autofocus supports high-level imaging
Advanced AF supports high-level imaging
Two XD (extreme dynamic) linear motors ensure fast, precise AF and tracking. A dedicated
control algorithm achieves enhanced response with minimal delay and vibration so that
the lens’s large focus group is driven smoothly and quietly. All of this makes it easier to
capture the most important moments when shooting active, fast-moving subjects.
Refined, stable performance for movies
Focus breathing is controlled so that angle of view shifts are minimised for smooth movie
footage. The breathing compensation function*1 in compatible α bodies is also supported,
and in-body Active Mode*2 image stabilisation makes it easy to shoot stable movies while
walking. The lens accepts 67 mm filters, and is compact, lightweight, and easy to balance
on a gimbal.
*1. Camera compatibility info at: https://www.sony.net/dics/breathing/
Not available when shooting stills. Angle of view and image quality may change slightly when this function
is used. Effective compensation may not be achieved in all situations.
*2. Compatible models only.
Comprehensive control and solid reliability
Comprehensive control
In addition to the normal focus hold function, other functions can be assigned to the focus
hold button via the camera controls as needed. A focus mode switch conveniently located
on the side of the lens barrel makes it easy to switch between auto and manual focus
without having to take your eye off the viewfinder.
Natural linear manual focus response
Linear Response MF ensures that the focus ring responds directly and linearly to subtle
control when focusing manually. Focus ring rotation translates directly to a corresponding
change in focus, so control feels immediate and precise.
Aperture ring with click ON/OFF switch
An aperture ring provides on-the-fly aperture control, and a click ON/OFF switch optimises
aperture ring operation for different types of shooting. The click stops can be turned ON to
provide tactile feedback when shooting stills, or OFF for quiet, continuous aperture control
when shooting movies.
Iris lock prevents unwanted aperture changes
An iris lock switch prevents unwanted aperture changes while shooting. When locked, the
aperture is either locked at the [A] position or can be rotated between any of the manual
settings.
Extra reliability for outdoor shooting
A dust and moisture resistant design*3 provides ample reliability when shooting outdoors.
The front element features a fluorine coating that repels contaminants and makes the lens
easier to clean.
*3. Not guaranteed to be 100% dust and moisture proof.

Sony's goal: Environmentally conscious
Sony's environmental plan "Road to Zero" aims for a zero environmental footprint by
2050. The environmental footprint of this product has been minimised from development
through supply chain, production, and packaging. We are also transitioning to non-plastic
packaging materials. Plant-based non-woven fabrics are used for product bags.
