G-Master, the ultimate lenses for commercials

by Ali Riffai

I shoot a lot of high-end commercials for my clients from around the region and when it comes to image quality, you not only want a high-resolution camera like the Sony A7RIII but a lens that can capture all the details in a photograph. One of my favourite lenses in my bag is the FE 24-70mm F/2.8 G-Master lens. It is my to go lens at all times and is the most used lens for all my works. It covers the most common focal length, with minimum distortion, chromatic aberration, and edge to edge sharpness. I love the colour reproduction that comes from the Sony G-Master lenses. When it comes to low light I have the F/2.8 which helps me to shoot at a lower ISO.

I recently did a huge high-end commercial for one of the retail banks. It involved a huge amount of retouching after the shoot. Image manipulation needs a lot of details to work with, so for all images we shot, we need to keep it consistent and for that I used the FE 24-70mm Sony G-Master lens combined with the Sony A7RIII shooting with uncompressed RAW format to squeeze in the most information from the sensor.

The final images came out very nice and the whole team was happy with the results.
As we had 4 locations to shoot with models, the 24-70 gives me the flexibility to slightly change the focal length in different locations.

Sony A7RIII, 24-70GM @36mm, F/8, 1/80 sec, ISO 100

Sony A7RIII, 24-70GM @34mm, F/8, 1/80 sec, ISO 100

Sony A7RIII, 24-70GM @34mm, F/8, 1/100 sec, ISO 100

The original shoot

Sony A7RIII, 24-70GM @35mm, F/8, 1/60 sec, ISO 100

In this image we decided to completely change the background of the location because I felt
it is too distracting compared to other shoots.

The final image

I use two more lenses along with 24-70 is the FE 70-200mm F/2.8 GM for portraits and fashion. With both of these lenses I cover most of my shooting style, and i use the FE 16-35 GM when I need to go wider.
